Based in the town of Mollo, Girona, Northern Spain close to the border with France, Costabona started life as a family business in the 1950s raising pigs and curing meats as a way to make a living. Influenced by the recipes and preserving methods learnt from their French grandfather Costabona use the mountain altitude of 1180 metres above sea level and traditional methods to their advantage.
