Based in Tarifa, Cadiz, the Southernmost point in Spain, Virgen del Carmen or 'Our Lady of Mount Carmel' is the name given to the Virgin Mary by Christians from the area. The festival of 'Virgen del Carmen' as a maritime figure, or ‘Reina de los Mares’ (the queen of the seas) protects fishermen and mariners, on the 16th of July every year thousands of people gather together all along the Spanish coastline to pay homage to the Saint.
